Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for unemployment benefit in Vietnam?

Employees who have contributed to unemployment insurance for at least 12 months within the 24 months before losing their job, and who are registered as unemployed at the Employment Service Center within 3 months of job loss.

How is the monthly unemployment benefit calculated?

The monthly benefit is 60% of your average salary over the last 6 months before unemployment, but capped at 5 times the regional minimum wage. For example, if your average salary was 10,000,000 VND and the minimum wage is 1,800,000 VND, your benefit is min(6,000,000; 9,000,000) = 6,000,000 VND/month.

How long can I receive unemployment benefit?

You receive 1 month of benefit for every 12 months of unemployment insurance contributions, up to a maximum of 12 months. For example, 18 months of contributions = 1 month of benefit; 36 months = 3 months; 144+ months = 12 months (maximum).
